ONE 60-90 minute treatment will provide you with dramatic results, making your teeth several shades whiter. Depending on the original shade of your teeth, you may decide to continue treatments to make them even whiter, or you may stop after just one. The first time you whiten your teeth, you are reversing the effects of years of staining caused by foods, coffee, wine, tobacco, etc. While some may be satisfied after one session, it can take two or three 60-90 minute sessions with ICING 30 Carat to achieve the desired results. After this first round of whitening, a once yearly touch-up session for one hour is usually sufficient. However, if you are a heavy smoker, coffee or wine drinker, you might need to touch up every six months.

How safe is this for my teeth and what are the side effects?

ICING is a peroxide product, so it is very safe with minimal side effects. However, as with any cosmetic procedure, there is the potential for associated temporary pain. The most common side effect is mild to moderate sensitivity in the gums sometimes during initial placement of trays that last approximately 15 minutes. Sometimes the gum sensitivity arises immediately following the procedure. Often this sensitivity can be prevented by removing excess gel that squeezes out of the tray onto the gum tissue during the procedure. Also, those with a higher content of bacteria in the gums, such as those with gingivitis, might experience a higher degree of temporary sensitivity. In this situation you should considering see your dental office for your regular cleaning. Normally, all of these sensitivities are temporary and last anywhere from 10 minutes to possibly two days. Carefully molding trays and avoiding direct contact with gums will greatly help minimize any potential side effects. If you experience gum sensitivity, you may take a regular dose of ibuprofen or over the counter pain reliever to ease discomfort. The other most common side effect is temporary teeth sensitivity to hot and cold. This sensitivity can be avoided by first testing your teeth with a 10 minute session to determine how sensitive they are. If your teeth are excessively sensitive, we recommend doing two 30 minute sessions separated by a day or two instead of one 60-90 minute session; we also recommend using toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth. Do not use a whitening, abrasive, or tarter control toothpaste if you have sensitive teeth. Teeth also become sensitive during whitening because they are not exposed to your saliva, and therefore they become dehydrated. My gums feel like they are burning and they turned white. Is this normal?

It is normal but also an indication that your whitening tray needs to be trimmed shorter along the gum line, you are putting too much gel in the tray, your gums have a lot of bacteria in them, or you did not wipe off the excess gel that squeezed out of tray when you placed it in your mouth. The white gums will go way usually between ten minutes and could last up to 24 hours. We recommend you have a dental cleaning at least once every six months to help avoid this problem.

How often should I or can I whiten?

If this is your first time ever whitening your teeth it will take a few sessions to remove years of staining. Try a 30 minute session to start with and make sure everything feels fine. If you have not sensitivity after your first 30 minute session try and increase up to 90 minutes. There is no need to whiten more than 90 minutes since the active ingredients in Icing are all used up after this amount of time. If you have no sensitivity you can whiten once a day or every other day until you receive your desired shade of the teeth do not seem to be getting any whiter. After your initial whitening period you can touch up once every 3-12 months depending on your preference and your teeth staining diet.

How long can I store my unused gel?

You can store your unused whitening gel for up to two years in the refrigerator.

Do I need a laser of light to get my teeth whiter?

Studies and research have shown that whitening systems are not activated by light or lasers and you will not get better long term results by using them. In fact, they will dry your teeth out and make them extremely sensitive. We strongly recommend you do not use them on your teeth.
